Often, in the beginning the person experiences flu like symptoms. These occur 2 to 6 weeks after exposure. Some people experience no symptoms at all. Symptoms are not, the person can already spread the disease! The person can remain symptom free for up to 10 years. Then there are a run of minor infections or the person exhibits the following symptoms: swollen lymph nodes fever coughing weight loss diarrhea shortness of breath In the last phase, symptoms: immune system is impaired pneumonia white blood cell count of less than 200 (normal is 600 to 1,000) Kaposi's sarcoma (spots), if it occurs, usually shows up later in the disease...once the immune system has been compromised. Not many get these spots and, in fact, it affects mostly males with the disease who are not receiving anti-HIV drugs. If you think or suspect you have AIDS/HIV, your best course of action is to see a doctor immediately. Early treatment is the best course of action for a longer, healthier course of this virus.
